Dave who was adopted recently, but a family member has become quite ill and they have sadly had to bring him back to the branch. Dave does suffer greatly from separation anxiety, which is not surprising as he was abandoned and has lost two temprorary homes since then. We are looking for a family where there will be one person at home all the time at first.
This is what his adopters have said about Dave.
We’d describe Dave as more of a man’s dog he tends to gravitate towards men and has become hyper attached to myself. There is some separation anxiety/distress but they describe it as low to medium level.
Dave is an early riser and keen to get on with his day! Although not aggressive with their cat he’s absolutely desperate to be best friends, which their elderly cat doesn’t like. Dave likes to watch the goings-on in the street from the living room window
Dave isn’t a fan of the rain or wet weather and will go out and do what he needs to and straight back inside. Walks he’ll cut short himself and quickly lead you back home. He loves affection, fuss and cuddles and will very actively seek out affection from you. Can sometimes start to mouth you when he wants belly rubs.
Dave is a quick learner! So far they’ve worked on down, sit, down stays, down going into a sit, hand touch, retrieving a tug toy to hand, weaves around cones and Dave introduced an army crawl himself on the cones, the beginnings of meerkat/peekaboo. We think he’d be phenomenal at trick training and would really love to do a lot more trick training. Have done some very early stages of scent work with him with red Kong and he was phenomenal again at that! He’s very intelligent and a quick learner.
Dave would like a very active home with adopters who love to spend their free time out walking, hiking and being very active. Adopters who don’t just walk the dog but do training and enrichment out on walks as we’ve found he really loves that.

Dog Adoption FAQs
- Can I come and visit the dogs? We don’t have a ‘walk around’ centre so you will need to call or email us to let us know which dog you are interested in. Find the contact details for adoption on the right of this page.
- I’ve seen the dog I want, what next? Have a read of our adoption process for useful information and to make sure adopting a branch animal is right for you. Then get in touch to arrange to meet the dog you are interested in
- What is the adoption fee? The cost for adoption is from £275 for adult dogs and from £450 for puppies under 12 months of age, see the table above for what this includes.
- Where do you keep the dogs in branch care? Some dogs are fostered in various homes around Tameside and Glossop and others are in private boarding kennels.
- Can I make a financial donation to help branch dogs? Yes, you can donate directly to the branch by cheque or postal order, please send an email and we will gladly send you the correct address to send this type of donation to, or by cash at one of our collection days.
Good to know…
The branch will not rehome dogs to households where other resident dogs have not been neutered or are not up to date with vaccinations unless there are veterinary reasons for this.
We will not rehome RSPCA dogs as guard dogs, thieves these days won’t hesitate to hurt a dog – please get a good burglar alarm instead.
We will not allow our dogs to go to homes where they will live outside, as there is nothing so upsetting than to see a dog without human interaction, spending their days on the end of a chain or in a lonely kennel.
Unfortunately the branch cannot accept Bull breeds and their crosses directly from members of the public, only via RSPCA inspectors.
