Steffi – (rehomed)

[singlepic id=378 w=320 h=240 float=left]Steffi is a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross who has come into the branch to find a new home. Steffi loves people of all ages!

Steffi’s tail never stops wagging and she will make a fun and active companion. If you would like a little dog to take for walks in the country or town and who will return all the love and care you can give a thousand times over, then Steffi could be the one for you. Read more about Steffi below.

What is Steffi like with other dogs?

Outdoors – Steffi has been out on a country nature trail walk with a small group of people (adults and teenagers) and 2 other dogs. She introduced herself nicely to the other dogs beforehand (while on standard lead) and later when she was allowed to run (semi-free) on a long training line. She  ran playfully with the other dogs and took in the wonderful sights and smells of the countryside. She stayed close to the group at all times and had a good recall. She thoroughly enjoyed herself and behaved brilliantly!

In the home – Steffi was introduced to a home environment where the same 2 other dogs live. She played (in the typically exciteable Staffy way) with the young playful female labrador who loved Steffi so much her whole body wagged! However she didn’t respond well to the older (deaf) male dog who resisted her ‘confident’ approach to him while he was in his bed. For this reason we feel Steffi would be better as the only dog in the home but see no reasons why Steffi’s social skills could not improve in time so would encourage her new people to work on that with her.

Why does Steffi need rehabilitation?

Steffi limps from an old injury (but she doesn’t seem to mind!) She has been seen by an animal spinal therapist who prescribed daily excercises and lead walks while she recovers and builds up the muscle which has been lost over time. This is the reason we need a rehabilitation foster placement until she has fully recovered. (Animal fosterers costs are covered by the branch, including any ongoing vet care).

Other Training Needs

Steffi can pull on the lead (which doesn’t help her limp!) and will need work to reduce this. There is no reason why, once settled and calmed, Steffi wouldn’t be able to respond to learning many new things.

In fact, Steffi loves people so much she would thrive with any activity her new human chooses to do with her and will make a loyal, entertaining companion (as long as she also gets plenty of time to snooze which seems to be her favourite pastime!)
