[singlepic id=325 w=320 h=240 float=left]Lucy is a Rottweiller of approximately 20 months of age.
Lucy is very good natured with people and LOVES other dogs but needs to be introduced carefully as she is very excited and doesn’t understand not every dog wants to play with her. Lucy has enjoyed many energic playtimes with similarly playful dogs on the field local to the kennels (she especially loves labradors!).
Lucy is good on the lead until she sees other dogs and TRAFFIC. She will then pull and lunge excitedly so will need a firm handler and will benefit from attending training classes. Classes will also help to socialise her so she learns how to introduce herself more politely to other dogs.Lucy is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
We are looking for a home where she will be a much loved family pet with confident adopters who are experienced with this type of dog. She will be best with older children simply due to her size. Everyone at the branch has fallen in love with Lucy and we know the perfect home is out there.

Lucy (red collar, long lead) meets Vicki and Honey
On Wednesday 9th Nov 2011, local dog trainer Vicki Dawe visited Lucy with her own dog Honey. See below for a short video and photo’s from the morning and what Vicki had to say about her.
“Lucy is a lovely dog, with pretty good doggy social skills, her initial greeting skills need some work, but once that bit is over she is relaxed and friendly and responds well to being “told off” by another dog. I feel Lucy would really benefit from living with another dog, she loves their company and it would do her the world of good. Lucy’s recall is fair to medium, which I think is pretty impressive, given her circumstances. Lucy would need to go to a home with owners who understand Rotties as they do have a tendancy to “push their luck” and can be quite stubborn at times, especially while going through adolescense.”
“Lucy already seems to know some basic commands, so has clearly had a loving owner at some point. Lucy’s new owners would need to continue with her training and perhaps take her to training classes to ensure she continues to grow into the beautiful dog she is destined to be. Bad bits; Lucy does pull on lead but responds well to a Gentle |Leader, like most dogs she will occasionally try to remove it, but if you distract her she soon forgets about it. The Gentle Leader should be using as a training tool to show Lucy how she should walk, they shouldnt really be used as a long term solution, as otherwise the dog will never learn. Lucy also tends to lunge at traffic, but again this is greatly reduced with the use of a Gentle Leader. Lucy’s new owners would need to be fully prepared to take on this problem and deal with it, I feel with a little consistent training this problem could easily go away.”
“I wish Lucy all the best for her future life, she is a wonderful dog with bags of personality and a lust for life :)” Vicki Dawe, owner of Dawes Paws Dog Training Club
